Prayers of the Faithful

Dear Lord, we pray for all those in the world who don’t have homes. May they find a shelter to stay in. Lord hear us.

Dear Lord, we pray for Pope Francis to carry on Jesus’ mission by spreading the good news. Lord hear us.

Dear Lord, we pray for all the people who died from the earthquake in our country. May they rest in peace. Lord hear us.

Dear Lord, we pray for Ngaruawahia. May the fighting stop. Lord hear us.

Dear Lord, we pray for our school. May we keep learning how to be like you. Lord hear us.

"Zumba!"

“Zumba!”
Enzo, Ariki, Gene and Jayden lined up down the narrow aisle like soldiers, waiting for the soccer ball. Once the soccer ball landed in Enzo’s territory, the ball flew up in the air like a blue bird.
It was the year 2016, our smart school was putting on a talkative production. It’s called I Love The Knightlife.
The four boys immediately ran onstage. The Room three girls had sparkly headbands around their little heads, with pretty pink dresses, a green, pink and blue tutu attached to the beautiful dresses. The boys had bright yellow puma t- shirts and pitch black shorts. I liked the fist pumps in the first dance. At the end of the first brilliant Brazil dance some of the boys had letters on the back of their t-shirts, they turned around like flippy frogs and it spelled Brazil. The two dances were over, Sir Lancelot walked onto the, stage like a knight.
“May I have your ipod?” Sir Lancelot asked politely.
Maaria handed the touch screen ipod to Lancelot.
“Thank you!” Lancelot shouted in relief.
“Swish.” The soft red velvet curtains crawled across the stage and approached to the middle of the stage. “I really liked the Room 3 dances.” They looked pretty confident!

My Cousin

Kruz 28/7/16 My Cousin
“Gobble! Gobble!”  All the scrumptious food were heading down my family’s throats.
My Nana and Koro live on a muddy farm. We call it the Shed. In the long holidays, my cousin flew from Australia to New Zealand.

On a sunny Saturday, My cousin visited us. The tone of the pumped tires running over the concrete cracks sounded loud. Rhys, Grace and I happily hopped into the boiling hot spa. It felt like I was in an oven. Not long after, my cousin soundlessly snapped us in the spa playing. My dad turned the blasting radio on, and drifted away in a sleep.” Boo!” Kat and Hori were waiting at the stained glass door. Sailing down the hallway, Kat and Hori were saying hello! We replied and screeched the same thing back.
“Ring! Ring!” The vibrating phone was going off. When we arrived at our destination, I wobbled out of the shiny black truck and tiptoed across the narrow path. No one was there except my Nana and Koro.
A boring hour later, we started to eat, and more of my family turned up. As we munched the delicious food, I smelt the odours and tasted the sweet cream as it twirled down my throat with the scrumptious porridge. Finally, my cousin arrived. I wildly tackled him.

My Matariki Story

Long, long ago, there lived seven wolves and three pigs.
They lived next to a frolicsome creek and ancient trees. The pigs loved building huge houses and playing with their bouncy ball.
One sunny Sunday, the three pigs were building a house. Seven big bad wolves came along, and they huffed and they puffed and they blew the poor pigs' house down. After they ruined the house, all of them strolled off giggling at the same time. The god, Mitai, appeared and gave the wolves a warning, but the wolves ignored them.
The next day, the big bad wolves watched the three little pigs playing with their bouncy ball.
"Ha! Ha!" one of the wolves said in a mischievous voice. Disaster struck. Mitai approached wildly. He flashed a powerful light on the big bad wolves and sent them up to the sky. They are now known as Matariki. We see them early June, each year.

The Best Friends

Bell and Jasmine were best friends. The two girls lived next to a stream. They loved exploring new things about the forest. Every time the girls walked to the forest, they followed a playful stream so they didn't lose their way.
One blowy day, the two girls followed the stream to the forest. As the girls walked in they could hear the trees whispering secrets to each other, they could smell delicious odours of nature and could hear the frolicsome stream hustling and leaping over the hard rocks. Everytime the girls wandered in the forest they brought scrumptious snacks, but when they dropped the little crumbs on the path, birds wildly swooped down and gobbled all the food off the dirty ground.

On the way back, Bell and Jasmine saw unfamiliar things. They couldn't spot the path, so they gingerly strolled around trying to find the familiar path. A few hours later they could hear, "Swish! Swish!" Everything started to look and sound familiar, a few minutes later Bell and Jasmine heard voices filling the air. "over here mum!" shouted Bell. They powerfully bolted out to the voices.

Pet Day

WALT make up a story about a Pet Day problem.
WWBSWW:
  • Begin with an orientation to tell the reader who, did what, where and when.
“Pet Day will be on Friday,” Miss Anderson, Tom’s teacher, announced to the class on Monday. “Bring your pet to school and tell us about it, then we will have a pet parade.”
Tom was so excited. He would be able to bring Harry to school to
show everyone.
  • Write the events leading up to the problem.
At the end of the day, he ran all the way home to get his pet ready for Friday.
He loved Harry and had wanted to show his friends for a long time, but his mum and dad had told him that Harry must never leave the house; but, now, his
teacher had given him permission to bring it to school.
Smilingly, he polished Harry’s green silky skin, talking to it with his friendly voice. “You’re allowed to come to school, Harry. You can meet my friends and my friends can meet you.”
As soon as Friday came around, Harry carefully took Harry out of its cage and placed him into his black backpack. He couldn’t wait to get to school, so he ran
all the way.
When the bell rang, he and the rest of the class stepped into the
classroom.
  • Write the problem.
Tom opened his backpack to show his friends what he had brought to school for Pet Day.
“It’s a green, slippery, slimey …...................” he said slowly. “Snake!” he
shouted.
“Tom Denver, give me that thing right now!” Miss Anderson
commanded.
Tom opened his hand to pass it over, but, at that moment, naughty Billy Burton lunged to grab it himself. He bumped Tom’s shoulder and Tom hurtled forward, the snake flying out of his hand to the back of the classroom.
“Eeeeeee! Where is it?” squealed Miss Anderson.
Chaos threatened in Room 4.  Children jumped up and ran around, screeching
their lungs out and pushing over chairs and desks, trying to find Tom’s snake.

  • Write the events to tell your readers how the problem was solved.
Tom had a brilliant idea. He would make a trap. He wildly gathered some things around from the classroom like scissors, glue, paper, cords and the teacher’s lunch. He glued some sheets of paper together to make a net.

All the frightened kids leapt up on all the chairs and desks.

Tom called out to Harry.

Harry wriggled out to the food.

Tom soundlessly approached Harry, gently picked him up and silently dropped him into his backpack.

"Oh what a relief!" Miss Anderson sighed.
Well done, Kruz

The Magic Shows

Yesterday it was Catholic School's Day and two magicians came to our school. Their tricks were both great and funny.

"Wow!" Jonathan's wallet was burning on fire. It was stunning.

The first trick was when Jonathan blew up a balloon and gave us a big smile, " Cheese!" he shouted, then he turned it upside down and asked us what we thought it was. I thought it was a sad face, but it was a moustache.

Rylie asked for a giraffe. Jonathan couldn't make one, so he said that the giraffe went to a party dressed as a dog.

My favourite trick was when he changed a five dollar into a ten dollar by rubbing it.

The second show was the amazing El Gregoe. El Gregoe always brings birds to his show. My favourite trick was when Sue made El Gregoe float. Very very slowly, El Gregoe was floating. I couldn't believe my eyes. Sue was passing her hands above and below to show us that there were no strings.

The Birthday Of The Church

The Church is people spreading the Good News bout Jesus.
Before Pentecost, the followers of Jesus hid in a dark room.
Jesus sent them The Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit gave the followers courage. They could see flames on top of each other's heads. All of them heard the wind outside so they came out of the dark room and began spreading the Good News and everybody became Jesus followers. This day was called Pentecost. It was the birthday of the Church.

Mothers Day Recount

A while ago, it was my birthday. I was turning nine years old. My birthday party was celebrated at my house.
When I woke up, my whole family was on my bouncy bed and they all had shiny colourful presents. "Crackle! Crackle!" I ripped open my first present. "Wow!" When I saw my present, it looked shiny and black. It was a tablet!
After that, my family and I had some scrumptious porridge. It tasted sweet.
Next, I quickly dressed out of my warm pyjamas into fancy clothes. ''Knock! Knock!'' I came racing to the amber door and opened it curiously. I saw my Aunties.
A while later, my Dad sparked up the BBQ. We had cooked lunch - sausages, eggs, fish fingers and lots of yummy food.
Later, I played with my new presents and had some treats, like chocolate and ice cream. The first present I played with was my brand new tablet.
I love spending time with my mum. She is the loveliest lady I've ever met.

The Zoo

"Oh, oh, ah, ah!" The monkeys were making loud sounds.

On Tuesday, my class and I had a fun trip to the Hamilton Zoo because we had filled the good behaviour jar. While we were there, our mission was to find out some information about three animals of any kind.

The chimps were jumping from rope to rope wildly. I saw a mother chimp taking care of her baby chimp just like we do. She pulled the blanket down watchfully and carefully, the mother chimp wrapped the baby chimp up warmly. "Crackle! Crackle! Crackle!" I hustled all the stones into a path for me. We walked into where the chimps sleep. It was made out of old furniture. "Crunch! Crunch!" All the leaves crunched under my sandals."Scatter! Scatter! Scatter!" The rocks made sounds as I darted over them.

At the end, we all had an ice block and we took a class photo.

St Patrick

WALT retell a story.
WWBSWW tell the story in our own words.
Planning
Who St Patrick was and what he liked doing and what he didn't like doing
 - where he was born - what his family was like
He liked walking on the beach. He liked whittling his slingshot.
He hated school.
One day,
- didn't go to school
- went to the beach
- pirates came
- stole him and the other girls and boys
- sold him in Ireland to Milchu
- was a shepherd - looked after sheep and pigs (swine)
- started talked to God - trusted God and was happy
- One night, heard God talking to him - told him to go the a ship
- when he was on board, - big storm - ship grounded in France
- crew starving
- Patrick asked God for help
- God sent him pigs and an apple tree- ate pork dinner and apple sauce

St Patrick lived in England, although his family was quite rich. Patrick did not like homework, he would lie to his mother an say, "Yes mother I am nearly finished". One day when he was on his way to school he secretly raced to the shore, he froze in silence then pirates scatted around the village. Patrick was sold and made slave. For six years he was a Shepard. When Patrick was taken he made lots of friends and helped villagers make cheese and butter. One night Patrick had a dream and he heard a voice, "Fast and pray". A couple of nights later he had another dream he heard the same voice, "There is a ship waiting for you". Patrick travelled for a long time, he soon saw a ship he darted down to the ship and a crew pulled him aboard. When they were sailing a storm hit the ship was grounded. Patrick and the crew searched for food but they could not find any then Patrick prayed with all his heart, suddenly a heard of wild pigs came running out of the forest after an apple tree grew. they had pork and apple sauce.

Swimming Sports

Stomp! Stomp! Stomp! All of St Paul's came running down the steep stone hill. We all vanished into the changing rooms. As everyone came out noisily, people were jumping into the pool. All the girls and boys took part in a lot of hard swimming races.
When it was my turn, I gingerly leaped into the freezing pool. "Three, Two, One, Go!" I swam as hard as I could - first place, "Yeah!'' My house earned fifty points.
After that, were the length races. Nancy called my name out loud, and a couple of other names in my house group, I scrambled over to the pool side with the other nervous people. My team and I all sat on the wet ground. Sienna raced with a flutter board over to me. I leaped in and swam to the next  person. My house and my Mum were cheering me on. After that fun ball relay, we had more interesting relays like students vs adults and top four.

The Rocket

Fall Fall Fall! Everyone was shouting.
Paul brought a red rubbery noodle, it was a rocket. Paul unrolled it watchfully and blew it up fast. Most people were making it to the very end. When it was my turn, I gingerly stepped onto the bound rocket. I flung into the clear water and slapped my leg. "Ouch!" I said.  I jumped wildly into the water, the rocket shot off. Whoever fell off had to swim effortlessly to the closest ladder.

On my way to lining up, I leaped thoughtfully into the little pool and dived for all of the squishy toys. Once I had jumped back onto the hot side, I ran across a couple more times then leaped over the side and into the other cold pool. Suddenly I saw all the Room Fives and Sixes. I grabbed all the colourful toys quickly and gathered them together. Mrs Thomson was telling everyone to get out of the little pool and get changed. "Here," said Sabriye, as she handed out all the yummy lollipops, Ashley called everyone to the splashed up side, "Well done, Room Four!" After that, Paul and Ashley pulled out two black swimming bags and gave them out.

World of Maths

"This one! This one!" Enzo shouted.
We all ran as a team to the activity. I told them the instructions out loud, "Ella you go first." Everyone had a turn then we moved quickly to the next activity. We had trouble so I raised my hand. Kath came over and helped us. We caught it. "Okay, next activity." As a team, we darted over to another fun activity. After, Kath called us all down to the hard brown floor. "That's the end," Kath said. We all scrambled out of the hall.

Year of the Monkey

sshin-nyen kwhy-ler.

Happy Chinese New Year.
2016 is the Year of the Monkey.

Swimming 2016

Splash! goes the water as we jumped in. When we first slid quickly into the cold pool. Ashley told us to run around the side of the cold pool then she told us to to turn and swim as hard as we could the other way, "Stop!'' Ashley yelled out loud. We all scrambled back to the concrete side. Next, our swimming teachers gave us numbers from one to four. Ashley called out one number at a time. When our numbers were shouted out, we darted across to the other side. The water followed me and hustled me to the wall. The hot sun reached its dazzling arms down to me and it danced in the sky. After that was the fun fun part. Ashley tossed toys in the calm air, and they landed straight into the clear blue water. We all chased after one toy each then we climbed up the hard silver ladder and vanished to the changing rooms.
